Buckwheat
Triangular shaped. Light to dark brown color. Source of fiber,

Corn-Cracked
Whole yellow corn that has been "cracked" or lightly
ground. Texture is small, medium or coarse. Source of starch and carbohydrates.
Attracts doves, starlings, blackbirds. Good source of food for small wildlife.
Corn-Popcorn
Yellow or white color. Very small kernel. Source of starch and
carbohydrates. Preferred by doves.
Corn-Whole
Yellow color. Source of starch and carbohydrates. Attracts
blackbirds, starlings, crows. Excellent food for wildlife (squirrels, deer,
chipmunks, etc.)
Fruit
Dried fruits such as cherries, cranberries and blueberries which
are used to attract fruit eating birds. Source of minerals, energy and fiber.
Millet-Red Proso
Small round red grain. High in fiber. Medium protein. Preferred
by sparrows. High in waste. Inexpensive ingredient.
Millet-White Proso
Small round white grain. Preferred by sparrows, grackles, etc.
High waste factor. High fiber. Medium protein. Inexpensive ingredient.
Milo
A white or red to brownish red grain. Sorghum. Medium protein.
Preferred by doves, quail and pheasant. High waste factor. Slightly larger in
size than red or white millet.
Tree Nuts
Chopped or whole pieces of pistachios, almonds, walnuts, pecans,
etc. Attracts insect eating birds as well as seed eaters. Source of protein, fat
and fiber.
Nyjer®
Also referred to as thistle. Sterilized and imported. Preferred
by finches. High in oil (fat) content. Very small black seed.
Papita
The kernel of the pumpkin seed after the hull has been removed.
Excellent source of fiber and protein. Preferred by most songbirds. Also good
for wildlife feeding. Light green color.
Peanut Hearts
The small kernel or germ left over after peanuts are processed
into peanut butter. Bitter taste. Source of protein, fat and fiber.
Peanut Pieces
Small pieces of whole peanuts that vary in size. A by-product.
Source of protein, fat and fiber.
Peanuts-Inshell
Whole unprocessed peanuts. Excellent protein, fat and fiber (if
unprocessed). Many larger songbirds prefer this ingredient. Also good for
feeding squirrels, raccoons and other wildlife.
Peanuts-Shelled
Whole peanuts with shells removed. Excellent protein, fat and
fiber (if unprocessed). Preferred by jays, doves, cardinals and other songbirds.
Excellent for feeding wildlife. Note: It is best to feed unprocessed peanuts
that have not been cooked or salted.
Pumpkin Seeds
Large white flat seed. Source of protein. High in zinc. Attracts
songbirds and doves. Good for feeding squirrels and other wildlife.
Safflower
White to tannish white seed, similar in shape and size to oil
sunflower. Source of protein, fat and carbohydrates. Preferred by cardinals.
Bitter taste.
Sunflower Chips
The chopped kernel of the sunflower seed. Usually referred to as
"fine or medium chips". A favorite food for all seed eating wild
birds. Finches prefer the smaller size chips. A true "no waste"
product since the hulls have been removed. High in oil (fat).
Sunflowers-Black Oils
Black seed. Preferred by all seed eating wild birds. High in oil
content (38-48%). Excellent source of fat, protein and carbohydrates.
Sunflowers-Striped
Medium oil content (25-32%). Preferred by all seed eating wild
birds. Excellent source of fat, protein and carbohydrates.
Grain Products
Combination of various feed grains such as corn, oats, milo and
others which appeal to birds and wildlife.
Processed Grain Products
Combination of whole grains which have been naturally processed
or hulled such as cracked/ground whole corn, ground milo, oat groats and others.
